It would work, but it's a bodge and other items such as airbags might not work as expected, if it came from a saloon or tourer (delete as appropriate) door locks will be affected and definitely airbags.
As an alternative you could buy a key from
HERE and have a transponder programmed to suit your original EWS.
You can then use
TOAF to code a key remote, job done and no messing around with configuration mismatches.
That is the way to do it
