That’s why I was pleased when the water company installed a new water meter complete with a shutoff valve in the pavement outside.

Yes it can be inconvenient if you need to use it in the middle of the night and it’s raining, but how many of us regularly use the shut off valve in the house to ensure it will still turn?

It the water company’s valve and if it breaks its their problem to fix it.
