The genuine MG7s had a metal bus to all the bulbholders (like your standard lamps), but the copies most of us got use wires and self tappers. Caveat emptor.

That explains a lot - I was sat on the M42 (in traffic, of course!) behind a rather nice ZT with a set of these.
The intensity of the tail lights was absolutely ridiculous, to the point I switched lanes to sit behind a generic Eurobox instead!
