The fact is that our economy (and many other economies) are built on increases in material consumption year-on-year. How else can that be achieved if not by producing low-longevity goods?

Also, people buy rubbish by the bucket load. You only have to observe shopping baskets/trollies in pound shops.

Ultimately, it is all down to the average man or woman in the street and their purchasing habits.
