I guess there are many factors to take into account. Weather, road conditions, stop/starts and traffic. Mine's a 2.0 CDTi auto and I average the same around town. From Stranraer to London through the night driving happily at 55 MPH , and in no hurry to get anywhere, I'll manage 50mpg. All depend on the leaded right boot. I'm very happy with my return.
