No, you're not right in thinking that.

You will have to support the tank with something - either jacks or wooden blocks - otherwise it'll fall and the weight will be transferred to the pipework, which probably won't hold it.

Two jacks or two lots of wood blocks - put them under the tank, one each side (outboard of the tank strap, otherwise you won't be able to get it out).
