The problem is if it a part exchange at a dealer they often dont want to take the chance on any warranty problems so they might as well scrap it, they have probably allowed for that in the price they gave for it. A friend in the motor trade wont sell anything over 12 years old what ever condition it is in as he reckons it will always come back an bite him. He once sold an Escort that had done 35k from new and was 15 years old, he was fitting a new engine in it 2 weeks later.



If a car is owned by someone who does not do there own work a failed MOT or if it has a major fault can see it heading towards scrap.



I recently noticed a very nice Rover 400 on the back of a car transporter owned by a local scrappy. I asked the driver that it seemed to good to scrap and he just said ''knaddged head gasket''.
