I disagree. Provided it is clear what is news of actual occurrence and is differentiated form speculation in the reporting, both are of equal value.
As an example, there is much speculation about what could happen in Ukraine and the many possible scenarios. An intelligent reader should be interested in all of those in order to assimilate and arrive at his/her own view (speculation) of what may happen or should happen.
