had a similar situation recently where aircon worked but everytime i switched it on a loud pulley noise would start.
Mechanic reckoned it was the compressor bearing , changed that and noise was still there.
Turned out to be crankshaft pulley was slipping when put under load.
Been told by a aircon guy Denso compressors very rarely fail.
