Though 1GB is indeed very little it all depends on your OS and if you are willing to clear the cache or reset the unit. Android 5 or 6 will run pretty decent on a 1GB unit as long as you clear the cache regularly.
That said: if you have to option to buy a 2GB or even 4GB unit that would be well advised.
