As TC says the motor should run with 12V applied, it will take may amps so use thick cables, e.g. jump leads and if you go through a fuse, make sure its a big one. And hold the thing securely to prevent injuries!

Chuck out the old resistor and get a new one from Jules. The link posted is from elsewhere but the Jules one has correct holes drilled & wires fitted and I think its cheaper - plus he's a member on here so please support him! Also mount in the proper place on the bracket in the airflow. Loads of info on here about this.

If you don't want to disconnect & de-gas aircon pipes, you must cut away more plastic from both top and bottom holes so you can slide the fan shroud into place.

Not sure about wiring from control box, the diesel is quite different from petrol. I believe its expecting to drive a 3-speed fan so you need to wire it up so that both low & medium outputs will make the new 2-speed fan run on low. Again there is info for this here if you search!
