It's worth supporting the rear end off the ground first & checking for freeplay (with the wheels on).
Give them a spin aswell & listen for any abnormal noises (with the exception of the normal scuffing from the pads etc).
As myrover2013 has said, you could possibly have a wheel bearing gone.
I changed the discs and pads yesterday and the brake shoes appeared to be firm i.e. not loose, but I did not check to see if the pins were still fixed to the back plate. As for the bearings, I had these replaced about two years ago.

I have a new set of back plates, so will replace them in the morning and see if that cures the problem, if not, a trip up the Nant, to see Mr Jules
