Well, hopefully problem solved!

Wheel Bearing in bits, made no noise when spinning the wheel whilst jacked up, but on removing it for the replacement of the brake back plates, it fell to bits.

Obviously a poor quality part was fitted less than two years and 6000 miles ago.

Thanks everybody for your help, and Andy didn't change the back plates after all, as they were in good nick.
