Thanks Chuck, I'm hoping that my problem is only water ingress as it started after a very wet night when I went through a lot of deep puddles.
Looks like I need to remove the metal bracket as you say Mike but I couldn't really see where the unit would be when I had the plastic battery housing removed. I assume from Typhoon's comment about the plenum panels the unit must be tucked away under the plenum chamber somewhere?
Unfortunately I don't have access to a garage so I have to keep waiting for a dry day which is also not too cold to get out there and have another go.
Hopefully I'll get on it again soon.
