Many thanks everyone for the advice, I have not been using the car since before Christmas when I sent my short term licence to DVLA. I had no choice but to use it when I needed to take Margaret to the Walk in Centre. The car has not smoked since, I will take advice the from Trebor and cut the red and white wire.
