I'm afraid that I don't really know the difference as I had to take mine off as both it and the heater itself were described as the most sooted up units that they had ever seen by Devilish and Trebor despite the seller of my car insisting that it was working fine at the time of sale.
I still have the silencer unit hoping to clean it out and refit it but have no idea of the best way to do so. In the meantime I rather sadly do get mildly amused by the notion that my neighbours who I don't get on with must be wondering what the aircraft starting up sound must be coming from my car as it warms up on its own on winter mornings.
