Give the screen a thorough wash. Then get some 'Grade 0000 Super Fine Steel Wool' and use it to give the glass a good going over using screen wash as a lubricant.
I have been using this method for many years and absolutely no scratching of the glass takes place. It certainly does remove road grime though.
