Excellent, Arctic.
One of mine has already been fixed with a drilled metal bracket bolted AND bonded to the remains of the original plastic bracket. I had to fix another one myself, the night before going away on holiday in the car, using Araldite and steel washers. No doubt I'll have to do further work using metal brackets.
What's really valuable to me are the ideas for sourcing both the material for a bracket and the socket. The use of a Rawlplug is sheer brilliance. Good stuff. Thanks.
