Ok, so we've eliminated the absense of the secondary pump as being the cause, but is it only the more powerful variants that are affected? Reason I say that is I don't ever remember either of my olds 116s making the noise. Admittedly, they were both pre-facelift (one of them only 'just').
Was any mechanical componetry changed at the facelift time (as with the dodgy clutch plates, for instance).
