Good work! Three of your brushes definitely need replacing but I would do the fourth as well.

No. The brush, its cable and the holder will all be at the same potential.

The "red-ish little guy" is a capacitor, most likely for interference suppression. You'll see that there's one soldered between the red positive supply and earth. Arctic's library of useful photographs confirms that your motor needs only one capacitor. The leads on the loose one don't look as if they've ever been soldered to anything. I'm inclined to believe that this little red fellah climbed in during factory assembly and has been snoozing there ever since!
