Once you have the regulator pack in front of you on the bench, you will find the brushes are crimped and soldered in place, with a plastic cap which needs to be removed to allow access to the brush holder.

I snipped, then filed the top part of the crimp and opened up the brass part to allow the old brushes to be removed, recovered the springs and then you simply feed the wire back through the brass crimp, pull the brushes into position, then fold over the wire nip the brass tube, solder it and cut off the excess wire.

The important and fiddly job is refitting the regulator without damaging the new brushes

I may do a how too at some point, though if you are competent enough to remove the regulator with the alternator in situ, I suspect you won't have a problem with the brush fitting
