Once you’ve found the level plug paint it yellow so that it’s easily spotted next time. I do this with my sump plugs as well.
Also, I’ve recently cut holes in my undertray corresponding with gearbox level plug and sump plug so I won’t have to remove the undertray which can be a pain next time.
