Cliff,
Since you saw the temperature gauge falling, I would recommend that you find out what the coolant temperature is using the instrument pack diagnostics (see
'How to...' section for instructions). It should be in the nineties. If it's cooler, your thermostat isn't closing properly.

You have to buy the housing which has the thermostat sealed within it.
