Even on the later cars the EML light only comes on for a few faults Pete; as well as the LP fuel pressure and MAF it will come on for a faulty throttle demand pot, HP rail pressure sensor fault, and if yours is an automatic, then an open circuit in either the boost temperature sensor or EGR solenoid circuits.
If the light comes on as a self check with key to position II you have the later type, and if not the only things that will light it up are LP fuel pressure, HP rail pressure sensor fault or a fault with the loud pedal.
