Won't be doing a lot Phil, Ging is working 07:00 til 19:30. Had to work many a Christmas (and New Year) myself, both on the footplate and supervisory/managerial side. Every depot had drivers and supervisors/managers on duty for frost precautions, BR vintage diesels didn't have antifreeze and had to be started and run every few hours, the frequency and how long they ran for depended on the temperature right up to run continuously if the temp was low enough. More recently it was decided the festive period was a good time for major engineering work.
Even had a driver who would volunteer for a late shift every Christmas day so that he didn't have to look at his brother in law over the table during Christmas dinner, he couldn't stand him
