I have done exactly the same as NewDoc on several cars. (Although I have Pittasoft dash cams the procedure is the same) One thing that I do is wire in an auxiliary socket to plug the camera cable into. Then the negative wire goes to the most convenient ground (Usually the fuse box mount screw) and the positive wire goes to the piggyback fuse.
I just installed a cam in my wife's 2020 Subaru yesterday and the procedure was the same. Took about an hour.
