Good question, an IAT is an Inline Air Temperature sensor

The later cars that run the NNN500340 have an additional one as well as the one in the MAF located in an aluminium insert in the intercooler pipe just before the EGR valve.

The additional one is supposed to help balance out the fuelling by comparing the air inlet temperature either side of the intercooler and adjusting accordingly
