The horn sounding once on locking is an indication something isn't shut, door boot or bonnet. I have just found out in the pouring rain that a dodgy MAF sensor can make the car not start, simply unplug it and if the car starts the sensor is faulty. It's under the engine cover near the oil filler. You'll have to take the cover off to do though.
