It sure does. Why would the aircon freezer system run if it sees an ambient temperature so low? The aircon system operates on temperature differentials one of which is the ambient. Logically, it cools ambient air to a setting that's below ambient.
Connect up the sensor and once it recalibrates to the correct reading, try the aircon again.
