I have just replaced one of these relays, as mine was getting warm, and leaving the output energised.
When I took it out, I opened the case, and it was interesting to say the least, one of the relays had melted the case, and the circuit board had burned around the voltage adjust potentiometer (and signs of scorching on the plastic of the case....
I put this down to the high currents switched when connecting the batteries together?
Certainly if the relay feels warm, then there is a power loss that way - but is there enough to discharge your battery overnight? That would need to be checked with an ammeter...
Certainly if this relay was disconnected from live there should be no way to drain the main battery.
Possibly a duff diode in the alternator discharging the main battery?
