There are several old Top Gear episodes on YouTube which clearly state as far back as 1992 there were concerns over the dangerous levels of NOX produced by Diesel engines. This was overlooked in favour of outstanding mpg from diesel and as a result Governments started to promote diesel cars and started to tax it more. It was nothing short of a tax raising exercise and when added to a fuel duty accelerator it became a major source of income at budget time.
Despite the evidence, we were being poisoned by successive Governments.
