Just go for it i say as what's the point of polishing something you don't get to use. Yes it might break down but so can any car including new ones. That's the curse of owning a car but you get in with faith its going to do it's job.

Just my opinion though, Drive and enjoy and don't worry about the mileage.
My CDTI is without doubt the most pleasureable driving experience of any car I have owned,( and that includes a Silver Shadow 1). I fully concur with drive and enjoy, with an M47 powering me along, mileage is right at the bottom of my worries.
