If it is not a problem with the rotary coupler, if the factory fitted stereo has been replaced with another using an adapter lead, that lead may not carry the steering wheel control cables (many don't).
In the case of the ZT fitted with a Kenwood unit, the infra-red transmitter may be misaligned and not visible to the unit.
