This cooks/kills off the bacteria and fungi - uncomfortable of course in hot weather but it does work. If you only use the system to cool - then the bugs can thrive.

This partially rubbish Im afraid, you need well over 100DegC or up to 130DegC to do this, and you will get nowhere near this in a car.
