Take a look in the plenum chamber to make sure the ECM isn't wet, characterised by a tide mark on the pollen filter.
I can count the number of single pump variants of 75 where I have had to replace the pump on a single finger, and that was after the chap I bought the car from had fitted a pump from a twin pump car
