I had a problem with the V8 overheating 10 years back. Pottering around showing off Cornwall to relatives, the car just started running roughly and then cut out. To my horror, I then realised there was steam coming from the engine. Pushed the beast into the kerb and had a meal while the engine cooled off. The restaurant donated water with a container and when I got back to the car, cap off, and all that water taken. Had to make another trip for more water until full. Must have lost more than a gallon. Very nervously expecting potential major issues, I fired her up. Car then started normally and I noticed that it was losing a little water on short trips. No obvious leaks, but following forum advice I bought a new radiator cap. The car hasn't lost water since ( touch wood and whistle )
