Phil, you can download your PMs.... scroll to the bottom of the PM page....
Download all Private Messages as:
XML / CSV / Text
Then delete what you have just saved.....
This will free up your PM boxes 
Being blue is not a PM issue except that your boxes are full. Once cleared you can PM Reebs, or anyone else
