You will need to climb across the drivers seat I'm afraid, window glass will obstruct you if it's down. And once the door is open, you get to investigate and repair the cause. Mabey even source some parts. There are a few threads on this issue here and a Haynes manual has it's uses beyond a sill protector for jacking the car up.
