Crank sensor failure is a common cause of cutting out on Fiat and Alfa JTD engines that also use Bosch set-ups, never saw an error code in over ten years with Fiat but replaced a large number of them.

As a previous poster said they fail when hot then sort themselves out as they cool, I think it's to do with the windings deteriorating in them, they were only around 25-30 quid for a Fiat so probably worth doing anyway while also checking for any damage to the phonic wheel if it's visible.
