If the car body is in good condition then you have to ask yourself 'how much would a replacement car cost? ' if you have time and a certain level of skill then overhaul the engine or buy a secondhand engine. Remember most of the repair time is given to removing and replacing the engine. The actual repair time when the engine is out is not that great. When I had to do this I refaced and ground in all the engine valves which was time consuming but brought the engine back to new performance! I would go for it.
