I had a year 2000 freelander 1.8 for about 5 years and loved it but as already said, the viscous coupling went, taking the intermediate gearbox with it just 2 weeks after purchase. We stuck with it but is suffered with same cheap and plastic parts, easily broken like the clutch system which is a sealed until, almost all plastic and the frame that the slave fits into was too easily bent over time. Inside was lovely and comfortable and body was immaculate but it was let down by the cheap plastic parts, throttle body also suffered from warping when hot. We spent most of the time in Italy with this car and i was constantly having to change parts after problems.
I'd agree re the RAV4, thats we have now (3 door) and the wife loves it, but misses her old pajero!!
