Thanks guys. Steve - the speedo started working again not long after I started this post, and never went funny again - that's why I left things alone.

Maybe I should dig my TOAF out, and see if it shows another sensor up?

I can't remember exactly what Mark said when he did my brakes a couple of years ago, but I *think* the backplates were the only things not replaced, as they were surprisingly OK
