Yet another "marketing strategy" of building something that is "underdesigned", in other words it breaks rather than wears out, usually just out of warranty, so that you have to "replace" it!
Your new one will have to travel half way around the world and your old one gets recycled and does the return journey! Built in obsolescence!
I've just had to replace my security light and the wiring has just about disintegrated after only three years. I haven't even changed a bulb in it. My old one was on the house when we bought it and I didn't change it for around 17 years (bulbs changed every 2 to 3 years) and the wiring was still sound as a pound.
