Hi Pete.
As Mike suggests get in touch with the seller and explain that your mechanic refused to fit them on the basis that they are not fit for purpose, that being however long you have had them they would not have been fitted by any mechanic.

Ask if they will exchange them for other parts you may need, or a full refund, or even a pair of the newer arms if they have any or going to have any, and point them in the direction of this and other threads regarding the Indian arms.
