Our Fergus is a full on Feral,
He is a bit of a bedraggled bruiser of a cat and he will only let you get so near to him !
He is however friendly with our other permanent residents at the cat rescue.
His home is a little nest in one of the outbuildings as he doesn't come indoors.
He's certainly a character though, sounds like your Fergus was as well
