Question

The 1.8's have an idle air control valve on the inlet manifold, it has a stepper motor which moves a piston inside the valve which regulates the air and therefore the rpm at idle. The stepper motor runs to reset itself whenever the ignition is switched to off and you can hear it whirr while it does this for a few seconds after each engine shutdown. Could it not be this that you are hearing?
