Absolutely, it was desperate times. But surely the pricing strategy was all wrong, if they sold them cheap enough they just might have sold them by the boat load. If they're cheap enough nobody is going to expect them to be great. But they had a perceived image to uphold, and this car failed on that front pretty miserably. Over pricing it wasn't going to make it a better car.
You get what you pay for, and they expected people to pay far too much.
