Hi Jon. I did try to charge the battery that I took off back up. It was reading 10.8 volts. It charged up ok. I left it at 12.9 volts on the nighttime, and in the morning it was down again to 10.8. I think that is a sure sign that one cell has given up the ghost. The new one when I came to fit it, the voltage was...........10.8 on my meter. Fitted it knowing what the result would be, and just ticking from the dashboard lights and dials.
Took it back and this time when it was exchanged, I had a printout of sorts that it was 100%. No actual reading. The 8/21 according to the instructions on the side of the battery denotes the re-charge date if it is not sold by that date. The date on the other one was I think, 5/19 Which was when it should have to have its first recharge. My guess it was never done, and if it was, it means the battery was around 18/24 months old. Checked this later one before it was fitted and it flew over on turning the ignition key to start.
