Yes, Toaf will tell you if there are communications problems with the immobiliser chip etc. Perhaps the best testing tool is your eyes, check the incoming wiring and open the box and check for water damage.
The EWS is one of the modules that is not straight forward to replace if you’re thinking of just changing it. If a change is needed have a word with Big Russ, Jamie etc.
