Hello Ryan,

All you need to do is to renew the worn down brushes which can be ordered directly from Engineering Carbon Products Ltd. for about £20. These were purpose made for our fan motors and mine are still going strong after 50,000 miles (nearly better than the originals)!

The 2 speed system has its own problems:
  • It's noisy.
  • The 'silver' resistor fails.
  • Even some uprated 'gold' resistors have proved unreliable.
  • It's expensive.

I would advise against using the car until this fault is repaired. Currently your fan won't run until the coolant temperature reaches 112 degrees and even then the "fast" speed will actually be "slow" because of the failed brushes.

Both KV6 engine capacities used the same fan system so there's no significance in the "2.0 KV6" marking other than it sounds as if it was second-hand from such a car.

I agree with the consensus that you should keep what you've got and repair it.

Simon
